Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 13, 2026

Wakalist respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, when we share it, what choices you have, and how Wakalist uses cookies and similar technologies when you use the Wakalist website, platform, and related services (collectively, the “Service”).

In this Privacy Policy, “Wakalist,” “we,” “us,” and “our” mean Wakalist Inc.

By using Wakalist, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

1. What This Privacy Policy Covers

This Privacy Policy applies to personal information we collect when you:

  • visit or browse Wakalist;
  • create an account;
  • sign in with Google or another third-party sign-in provider we may support;
  • save spots or use logged-in features;
  • submit a spot suggestion or contact us;
  • sign up for email updates or marketing;
  • interact with our emails, website, or other services; or
  • use future Wakalist features if and when they are introduced.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in a few different ways.

Information you give us directly

Depending on how you use Wakalist, you may provide us with:

  • your name;
  • email address;
  • phone number, if you choose to provide one;
  • password or login credentials;
  • profile information;
  • support messages or other communications you send us;
  • marketing preferences;
  • any information you submit through forms on Wakalist; and
  • any future content or account information tied to later features.

If you create an account, we may collect your account registration details and any information you add to your profile.

If you use the Suggest a Spot form, we may collect the information you submit in that form, such as a venue or event name, type, location or address, optional Instagram handle, and optional recommendation notes.

Information collected automatically

When you use Wakalist, we may automatically collect technical and usage information such as:

  • IP address;
  • browser type;
  • device type;
  • operating system;
  • referring pages;
  • pages viewed;
  • timestamps;
  • clicks and interactions;
  • approximate technical location signals derived from network or device data; and
  • cookie and similar technology data.

At launch, Wakalist is designed around user-entered location rather than precise device location. We do not rely on precise geolocation at launch.

Information from third parties

We may receive information from third parties such as:

  • sign-in providers like Google;
  • analytics providers;
  • email and CRM providers;
  • hosting and infrastructure providers;
  • fraud, security, or abuse-prevention providers;
  • public web sources used to help create or improve listings; and
  • future payment, booking, support, or map providers if those features are later enabled.

We may also generate internal operational data, tags, classifications, summaries, or moderation signals using human review or automated tools, including AI-assisted tools, in connection with running and improving Wakalist.

3. How We Collect Information

We collect information:

  • directly from you when you fill out forms, create an account, contact us, or subscribe to emails;
  • automatically through cookies, analytics tools, server logs, and similar technologies;
  • from third-party providers you choose to use, such as Google sign-in; and
  • from public or third-party sources where relevant to building, maintaining, or improving listings on Wakalist.

4. How We Use Your Information

We may use personal information to:

  • provide and operate Wakalist;
  • create and manage accounts;
  • authenticate users;
  • remember your preferences;
  • process and review spot suggestions and other submissions;
  • build, improve, correct, and maintain listings;
  • personalize parts of the Service;
  • understand how Wakalist is used;
  • communicate with you about your account, submissions, updates, support requests, or platform changes;
  • send marketing emails where you have opted in;
  • protect Wakalist, users, businesses, and third parties from fraud, abuse, spam, and security threats;
  • moderate content and investigate misuse;
  • enforce our Terms and other policies;
  • comply with legal obligations; and
  • prepare for future features such as reviews, business claims, bookings, payments, customer support tooling, and operational automation if and when they are launched.

Wakalist may also use third-party tools, including AI- or automation-enabled tools, to support functions such as moderation, fraud detection, abuse prevention, listing organization, summarization, support operations, and platform improvement. Where we do, those tools are used on our behalf and subject to appropriate contractual and operational controls.

5. Accounts and Sign-In

If you create a Wakalist account, we use your account information to create and manage your account, let you sign in, support logged-in features, secure the Service, and communicate with you about account-related matters.

If you choose to sign in using Google, we may receive certain information from Google needed to authenticate you and support your account. Your use of Google sign-in is also subject to Google’s own privacy practices.

6. Spot Suggestions, Submissions, and Future Content Features

At launch, Wakalist allows public spot suggestions without requiring an account. We use that submission information to review, evaluate, create, improve, or update listings and platform content. Submission does not guarantee publication.

Spot suggestions are treated as internal intake. They are not intended to be publicly attributed to the person who submitted them, unless Wakalist clearly states otherwise for a specific feature in the future.

If Wakalist later enables reviews, ratings, photos, videos, business profile edits, claimed profiles, or similar features, we may collect and use that information to publish content, operate those features, moderate misuse, resolve disputes, and enforce our policies. Those future features may involve additional notices or policy updates.

Wakalist may also use third-party AI or automation tools in connection with future content features, including for moderation support, summarization, abuse detection, workflow triage, and platform operations.

7. Communications and Support

If you contact us, we may collect the contents of your message, your contact details, and any other information you choose to provide.

We use this information to respond to you, troubleshoot issues, investigate reports, handle complaints, improve support operations, and keep records of platform, moderation, or legal issues where appropriate.

8. Listings, Public Information, and Third-Party Sources

Wakalist may use information from public web sources and other third-party sources to create, maintain, organize, or improve listings.

At launch, Wakalist’s listing sources include manual curation, public web sources, and public spot suggestions.

Wakalist may also display summaries or platform-generated descriptions tied to listings. At launch, Wakalist may summarize reviews from third-party sources such as Google Maps and OpenTable on venue pages.

9. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Wakalist uses cookies and similar technologies to keep the Service working, understand usage, remember preferences, support personalization, and improve the user experience.

9.1 What are cookies

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help websites function, remember preferences, understand usage, and improve the user experience.

We may also use similar technologies such as pixels, tags, local storage, SDKs, and analytics tools for related purposes. For simplicity, this Privacy Policy refers to all of these as “cookies” unless the context requires otherwise.

9.2 How Wakalist uses cookies

Wakalist uses cookies to:

  • keep the website and account features working;
  • remember your preferences and settings;
  • understand how users interact with the Service;
  • improve performance, usability, and platform functionality;
  • support login and account security;
  • personalize parts of the user experience; and
  • help detect fraud, abuse, technical issues, or misuse.

Wakalist may also use service providers, including analytics, authentication, CRM, security, and AI- or automation-enabled vendors, that use cookies or similar technologies on our behalf in connection with these purposes.

9.3 Types of cookies we use at launch

At launch, Wakalist uses the following categories of cookies:

Essential cookies

These cookies are necessary for the Service to function properly. They may be used to support core website operations, user authentication, account login, security, session management, fraud prevention, load balancing, and similar essential functions.

Because these cookies are required for the Service to work, they generally cannot be turned off through our website tools.

Analytics cookies

These cookies help us understand how people use Wakalist, such as which pages are visited, how users move through the site, what features are used, and where technical issues may occur.

We use this information to improve performance, functionality, navigation, and overall product decisions.

At launch, Wakalist expects to use Google Analytics or similar analytics tooling for these purposes.

Personalization cookies

These cookies help Wakalist remember user preferences and improve the experience based on how the Service is used. For example, they may help remember settings, location preferences entered by the user, or other interface choices.

At launch, Wakalist is designed around user-entered location, not precise device geolocation.

9.4 What Wakalist does not use at launch

At launch, Wakalist does not assume advertising cookies, retargeting cookies, or third-party ad-tech tracking cookies are active.

Wakalist also does not assume maps, in-platform support chat, bookings, payments, or related transaction cookies are active at launch.

If Wakalist later enables advertising, retargeting, maps, support chat, bookings, payments, or other new features that rely on additional cookies or similar technologies, we may update this Privacy Policy.

9.5 Third-party cookies and technologies

Some cookies or similar technologies may be set by third-party service providers that help us operate Wakalist. These may include providers for:

  • analytics;
  • authentication and sign-in;
  • CRM and email operations;
  • cloud infrastructure;
  • security, fraud detection, and abuse prevention; and
  • future support, map, payment, or booking tools if those features are enabled later.

When third parties place cookies or process data on our behalf, they do so subject to their own terms, contracts, and technical configurations.

If you click from Wakalist to a third-party website, social page, reservation service, delivery provider, or other external destination, that third party may use its own cookies and tracking tools. Those tools are governed by the third party’s own policies, not this Privacy Policy.

9.6 AI and automation-related tooling

Wakalist may use third-party AI- or automation-enabled tools in support of moderation, fraud detection, abuse prevention, support operations, summarization, workflow support, and platform improvement.

Those tools may rely on cookies or similar technologies where relevant to authentication, security, session handling, analytics, or workflow operations. Where used, they are used on Wakalist’s behalf and subject to appropriate contractual and operational controls.

9.7 Your cookie choices

You may have several choices when it comes to cookies.

You can usually:

  • change your browser settings to block or delete cookies;
  • use browser controls to limit tracking;
  • clear stored cookies from your device; and
  • manage cookie preferences through Wakalist tools, if and when those tools are made available.

Please note that blocking or disabling some cookies may affect the functionality of Wakalist. In particular, essential cookies may be necessary for account login, security, preferences, and other core features to work properly.

If Wakalist introduces a cookie consent or preference manager, your choices may also be managed there.

9.8 Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting. Because there is no universally accepted standard for how to respond to these signals, Wakalist does not guarantee that it will respond to them in any particular way.

9.9 Data linked to cookies

Information collected through cookies and similar technologies may be linked to other information we collect, including account information, device and browser information, usage data, user-entered preferences, and support or submission history, as described in this Privacy Policy.

We use that information to operate, secure, improve, and personalize Wakalist, and to better understand how the Service is used.

10. Marketing Communications

If you opt in, Wakalist may send you marketing or promotional emails.

You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us. Opting out of marketing emails does not stop service-related or legal notices that we still need to send.

At launch, Wakalist sends marketing emails only to users who have opted in.

11. When We Share Information

We may share personal information in the following circumstances.

Service providers

We may share information with vendors and service providers that help us operate Wakalist, such as providers for:

  • cloud hosting and infrastructure;
  • analytics;
  • authentication and login;
  • email delivery and CRM;
  • security, fraud prevention, and abuse monitoring;
  • AI- or automation-enabled tools used for moderation, summarization, support operations, fraud detection, abuse prevention, or workflow support;
  • customer support tools, if later enabled;
  • map tools, if later enabled; and
  • payment or booking tools, if later enabled.

Third-party integrations and destinations

If you click out from Wakalist to a business phone number, website, Instagram page, reservation tool, delivery provider, or other third-party destination, your interaction with that destination is governed by the third party’s own terms and privacy practices, not ours.

Legal, safety, and enforcement reasons

We may share information where reasonably necessary to:

  • comply with law, regulation, court order, or lawful request;
  • protect Wakalist, users, businesses, or third parties;
  • investigate fraud, abuse, security incidents, or policy violations; or
  • enforce our Terms or other legal rights.

Corporate transactions

We may share information as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, asset sale, or similar transaction involving all or part of Wakalist.

With your direction or consent

We may share information where you ask us to do so, direct us to do so, or otherwise consent.

12. Cross-Border Processing

Wakalist may process or store personal information outside Canada. This may include processing by service providers located in other countries.

When information is processed outside Canada, it may be subject to the laws of those other jurisdictions and may be accessible to courts, regulators, law enforcement, or national security authorities in those places.

This may include data related to cookies and similar technologies used by our service providers.

13. Data Retention

We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including to:

  • provide the Service;
  • maintain records;
  • resolve disputes;
  • enforce our agreements;
  • detect or prevent fraud and abuse; and
  • comply with legal, tax, accounting, or regulatory obligations.

How long we keep information may depend on the type of information, how sensitive it is, whether you continue to use Wakalist, and whether we need the information for legal, operational, or security reasons.

If you close your account or stop using the Service, we may still keep some information for a reasonable period where needed for the reasons above.

14. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information.

No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are also responsible for protecting your account credentials and using Wakalist securely.

15. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on how you use Wakalist and where you are located, you may have choices regarding your information.

These may include the ability to:

  • access, update, or correct certain account information;
  • unsubscribe from marketing emails;
  • manage cookie settings through your browser or Wakalist’s cookie tools where available;
  • ask about the personal information we hold about you; and
  • request deletion of certain information, subject to legal and operational limits.

At launch, Wakalist handles privacy requests through support@wakalist.com unless and until self-serve privacy tooling is added.

16. Children and Minors

Wakalist is not directed to children.

Under Wakalist’s launch model, users must be at least 18 years old to create an account, submit content or spot suggestions, use interactive features, claim or manage a business profile, or use future booking or payment tools. If we learn that personal information was collected in a way that violates this rule, we may delete it.

17. Canada-Specific Notes

Wakalist is being drafted for launch in Canada outside Quebec. Privacy expectations and legal rights may vary depending on where you live and the laws that apply.

Because Wakalist may process information outside Canada, your information may be handled in jurisdictions with different privacy laws than your home jurisdiction. We will manage that information in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.

18. Future Features and Policy Updates

Wakalist expects to evolve over time. If we later enable features such as reviews, photos, business claims, business profile management, maps, customer support chat, advertising pixels, AI-assisted moderation or support tooling, bookings, reservations, payments, deposits, or other transactional features, we may update this Privacy Policy to reflect those changes.

If we make material changes, we may post the updated version on Wakalist and may also provide additional notice where appropriate.
